The Owners

Aurora Saqui Aurora Saqui was born in the San Antonio Village of Cayo located in western Belize where she and her sisters developed the art of Maya slate carving; here she was also apprentice of the well known local herbal healer Don Eligio Panti from whom she learned the art of herbal healing. In a world that is becoming increasingly westernized Aurora is a woman proud of her Mayan heritage and works hard to preserve and gain recognition for her people.

Ernesto Saqui is a Mopan Maya born in the San Antonio Village of Toledo located in southern Belize. He served as the first director of the Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary in the Stann Creek district. He has been a farmer, village leader, and teacher and today serves as a starched conservationist. Today he is still active in the community and alongside his wife strives to preserve the Mayan Culture.
